TJ's Running
December Newsletter
Welcome to December, also known as the most difficult month of the year for many runners. A combination of colder temperatures, the holidays, busy work and social calendars, and lack of organized races makes it a challenge to stay motivated. Sure, January is just as cold, if not colder, but by then the holidays are behind us, and New Year's Resolutions and next year's race schedule are in front of us. Even if you are unable to attend the group runs, we strongly suggest you keep a running routine, even if it's just a day or two each week… this will pay big dividends next month when we start our next training session on Tuesday January 6.his Tuesday, December 2. It's difficult to find a track to train on, and the wonderful people at Wichita Collegiate, including the football coaches and players, have allowed us to use their track for several years. This is our way of saying thank you to them. We will begin grilling at 5:00 p.m. near the high school (not the track) and serve the food around 5:30. Our track practice will begin around 6:00 p.m. as it normally does. We are still in need of side items like buns, cheese, plates, etc. Please sign up to bring something if you can.
Injuries are a part of running, and they impact all of us… even the coaches. While Coach Jake is resting and recovering from a stress fracture he endured during the Great World Race, Kevin Johnston will help with coaching duties for the remainder of the maintenance session. And while Coach Tony is not injured per say, like Coach Jake he is also in need of some down time and will be occasionally absent from group runs until January. As always, our amazing board members consisting of Elisabeth Archibald, Yuri Stafford, Scott Brown, and Garrison LeRock will take charge as the coaches take advantage of some much needed down time.
While we typically have two family gatherings each year, one after the winter/spring session, and the other after the summer/fall session, some of you have shared that you would like for the family to get together for a holiday celebration. While nothing is currently in the works, stay tuned for more information on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media outlets should we decide to put something together.
Happy Birthday!
