TJ's Running
November Newsletter
Welcome to November where the days get both shorter and colder. Are you ready for the lower temperatures and dark evening runs? Make sure you have a good supply of reflective clothing and/or running lights, especially on our Thursday evening runs. While most of these will be in well lit places, any time we cross a street, even a side street, we must be as visible as possible to oncoming traffic. Regarding the colder running conditions, don't forget to layer up and not wear bulky, heavy jackets and coats. Often it will be chilly before we start our run but remember your body will warm up ten to fifteen degrees during the run. It's much easier to peel off a layer during the run and put it on again when finished. Please let the coaches or board members know if you have any questions about running gear and/or how to dress.
Due to inclement weather conditions, our hamburger feed was postponed to Tuesday, November 4. It's difficult to find a track to train on, and the wonderful people at Wichita Collegiate, including the football coaches and players, have allowed us to use their track for several years. This is our way of saying thank you to them. We will begin grilling at 5:00 p.m. near the high school (not the track) and serve the food around 5:30. Our track practice will begin around 6:00 p.m. as it normally does. We are still in need of side items like buns, cheese, plates, etc. Please sign up to bring something if you can:

For the past 16 months, Coach Jake and Coach Tony have been planning, collecting donations, doing borderline insane running gimmicks, and training for the Great World Race. On Monday November 10 they will leave for this incredible, once in a lifetime journey while putting ICT S.O.S. on an International stage! If you can, please come to Eisenhower Airport between 3 and 4 p.m. to say good-bye and good luck as your coaches become the first ever Wichitans – and Kansans – to complete seven marathons, on seven continents, in one week! The actual event will start on November 15 and finish on the 21st in Miami, and you will be able to follow the journey on their social media pages and on KWCH channel 12 every day at 6:30 a.m. for the 'Where in the World is Jake' segment.
Both Coach Tony and Coach Jake will be absent for two weeks while competing in the Great World Race. However, our weekly maintenance runs will continue with other Board Members leading the way. In the rare event of inclement weather, and/or no board members able to attend a group run, posts will be made on Facebook and email notifications will be sent out ahead of time.
Good luck to our family members competing in the Salina Crossroads races on Saturday, November 8! Not running in Salina? There are other races in November to keep you motivated throughout the month. The two and ten mile Turkey Trot is Saturday, November 22, and the Say Grace 5K is on Thursday, November 27, AKA Thanksgiving. What better way to enjoy all the wonderful food that afternoon than by doing a 5K during the morning… and it may get you out of some cooking duties!
Happy Birthday!
